The American Golden Topaz

The following is a comment made by Ed Borgatta on June 27, 2010, with respect to our blog webpage on "The American Golden Topaz" written and posted by me on May 12, 2008.

There is a major error in the identification of the contributors of the American Golden Topaz to the Smithsonian Museum. The identifying museum card correctly states:
“Gift of the Rockhound Hobbyists of America through the efforts of the six regional federations of minerological societies and Drs. Marie and Ed Borgatta, 1988″ The Borgattas were the major contributors of the Topaz.

In our account on the "American Golden Topaz" under the main heading "History of the American Golden Topaz" and sub-heading "The Processing of the American Golden Topaz and its donation to the Smithsonian's NMNH" we have inadvertently identified only the Rockhound Hobbyists of America, as the purchasers and donors of the enormous golden topaz to the Smithsonian's National Museum of National History. Dr Ed Borgatta had been kind enough to point out the error committed by us, and we sincerely regret any inconvenience caused to him by our omission. As pointed out by him the museum card spells out the correct position with regards to this valuable gift.
