25th Gemstone Gathering of GIA Thailand

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Thailand has announced that it will hold its 25th gemstone gathering on the 24th of June 2009.

The presentation “Colored Gemstones- Mines and Market” will be presented by Dr Dietmar Schwarz, Research Manager Gubelin Gemological Laboratory.  The presentation will begin at 6:00 PM. It is a free gathering.

Dr Dietmar Schwarz is a well known gemologist who has researched extensively on numerous aspects of gemology and mineralogy. He has also written a book on emeralds which was published in 1987. Dr Dietmar Schwarz obtained his PhD from Johannes Gutenburg University,  Mainz, 1981 . He is presently the research manager  at the Gubelin Gem Laboratory in Switzerland. He has also served in the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and professor of mineralogy and gemology at Ouro Preto Federal University, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

The presentation will cover mainly the commercially traded gemstones such as ruby and spinel.

The venue of the gathering is the Murano Room-2nd floor of the Tawana hotel, 80 Surawongse road, Bangkok.

Kenneth Scarratt, the managing director of GIA , Southeast Asia and director GIA Laboratory in Bangkok said” We welcome him to GIA, Thailand’s gemstone gathering, an event that continues to provide the latest gemological information and research.
