A 32.01-carat emerald cut internally flawless diamond set in a ring was sold for USD 7.7 million at Christie’s New York.
Leonore Annenberg, the late billionaire and philanthropist bought the ring for her 90th birthday. She died at the age of 91 in March this year.
The diamond which was set on a ring with smaller pear shaped diamonds on both sides was designed by the Manhattan jeweler David Webb.
Her husband was Walter Annenberg the billionaire publisher. He died in 2002.
Leonore Annenberg (1918-2009) was the head of protocol during the presidency of Ronald Regan. She was the president of the Annenberg foundation after the death of her husband. The main purpose of the non-profit foundation was to fund education and arts.
