Blue Diamond sold at Christie’s Auction for US$3.6 million

On Thursday the 11th of June at New York a rare blue diamond fetched approximately   $3.6 million-US$3,554,,500 or  US$565,000 a carat  at Christie’s Spring Jewellery Sale.

The blue diamond, a pear cut 6.29-carat fancy intense blue stone was purchased by an  anonimous buyer.

The auction held at the Rockefeller plaza (sale 2177) sold 167 lots for a total value of US$ 11, 367,875 .

At a Sotheby’s auction last month a 7.03 carat flawless fancy vivid blue diamond was sold for US$ 9.49 million , highest price paid per carat for any gemstone at an auction.

Some of the other items sold at this Christie’s auction include:

i) A diamond necklace by Graff for $410,500

ii)A 46.72 carat modified rectangular cut fancy yellow diamond, which was sold for $602,500 or $129,900 per carat.

iii) An art deco pearl and diamond sautoir, sold for $236,500.

iv)A 8.1-carat pear cut fancy light pinkish purple diamond, was sold for US$302,500

According to Christie’s head of jewelry, Rahul Kadakia a total of US$11.3 million changed hands on Thursday.

This Christie’s New York Jewels Auction sold 86% by volume and 91% by lot.
