Christie’s Paris online Jewelry Auction, Sale 21068, held from 23 June 2.00 PM to 07 July 12.00 PM, christened “Joaillerie Paris” featuring a total of 298 Lots, realized a Sale Totaal of EUR 9,301,001 (USD 9,340,530), selling 78% by Lots.
Lot 227 VAN CLEEF & ARPELS RUBY AND DIAMONDS TRANSFORMABLE ‘ZIP’ NECKLACE.
Top Lot of the Sale based on prices achieved and as anticipated was LOT NO. 227 – VAN CLEEF & ARPELS RUBY AND DIAMONDS TRANSFORMABLE ZIP NECKLACE, a true masterpiece of ingenuity and one of the most innovative pieces of jewellery ever created by Van Cleef & Arpels, based on an order placed by the Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson in the late 1930s, a patent for the design of the necklace being filed in 1938, but the first Zip necklace delivered to the Duchess only in 1951.
Lot 227 VAN CLEEF & ARPELS RUBY AND DIAMONDS TRANSFORMABLE ‘ZIP’ NECKLACE.
The diamond and ruby Zip Necklace sold for EUR 819,000 ($824,550), smashing its EUR 300,000 ($301,430) upper estimate by 2.73 times, and setting a new world record for a Van Cleef & Arpels Zip necklace.
Lot 298 25.40 CARAT DIAMOND COCKTAIL RING
The next highlight of the sale achieving the second highest price realised of EUR 441,000 ($444,560) was LOT 298 – 25.40 CARAT DIAMOND COCKTAIL RING, DIAMONDS AND SAPPHIRES. The Platinum Ring is bezel-set with a cushion modified brilliant-cut, K-color, faint brown, VS-1 clarity diamond, weighing 25.40 carats, surrounded by a row of calibre-cut rectangular blue sapphires, the shoulders and sides of the ring, set with circular-cut diamonds, with an approximate total weight of 27.00 – 27.50 carats. The price of EUR 441,000 realised is much above the upper estimate of EUR 300,000 placed on the ring.
Lot 18- 10.56 CARAT SAPPHIRE RING
LOT 18 – 10.56 CARAT SAPPHIRE RING with an estimate of EUR 300,000 – EUR 400,000 was the next highlight of the sale , selling slightly above the upper estimate for EUR 403,200 (US$ 406,450). The Platinum Ring of size FR-51/US- 5 ½ is set on its mounting with a cushion-brilliant step-cut Kashmir blue sapphire weighing 10.56 carats.
Lot 165 9.46 CARAT DIAMOND AND COLORED DIAMOND RING
The next highlight of the sale, realizing the fifth highest price of EUR 302,400 (USD 304,800) was LOT 165 – 9.46 CARAT DIAMOND AND COLORED DIAMOND RING. Ring Size FR-52/US-6, Rose Gold ring is claw-set with a modified pear-cut, D-Color, VS1-Clarity diamond, weighing 9.46 carats, with circular-cut pink diamonds set on the upper hoop of the ring. Total weight of colored diamonds approximately 0.7 – 0.9 carats.
LOT 20 – 13.71 CARAT DIAMOND AND SAPPHIRES ART DECO RING
LOT 20 – 13.71 CARAT DIAMOND AND SAPPHIRES ART DECO RING, with estimate of EUR 100,000 – 150,000, but sold much above the upper estimate for EUR 252,000 (US$ 254,000) is the next highlight of the sale. Ring Size FR: 54 ½ / US: 7 ¼ Platinum Ring is Bezel-set on the mount with a modified octagonal step-cut, K-Color, VS1-Clarity diamond weighing 13.71 carats. The shoulders and upper-hoop of the ring are set with baguette-cut blue sapphires.
TWO DIAMONDS OF 3.03 and 3.22 CARATS
LOT 296 – TWO DIAMONDS OF WEIGHT 3.03 and 3.22 CARATS – with an estimate of between EUR 160,000 and EUR 200,000, but selling much above the upper estimate for EUR 239,400 (US$ 241,600) is the next highlight of the Sale. The 3.03-carat diamond is a round brilliant-cut, D-Color and VVS2-Clarity diamond. The 3.22-carat diamond, is also round brilliant-cut, D-Color and IF-Clarity diamond.
LOT 54 – 29.172 CARAT SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND RING
LOT 54 – 29.172 CARAT SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND RING – with an estimate of EUR 80,000 – 120,000, is another lot that did extremely well at the auction, smashing the upper estimate of EUR 120,00 by 1.8 times, selling for EUR 214,200 (US$ 216,170). Ring Size FR: 56 / US: 7 1⁄2, 18k yellow-gold ring, is double claw-set with an antique cushion, fancy step-cut Ceylon blue sapphire weighing 29.172 carats, flanked by trillion-cut white diamonds with total weight of 1.70-2.00 carats.
