Enhanced Trade Relation with China

Sri Lanka and China explore gemstone trade opportunity

The Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Association (SLGJA) and the Gem Traders Association of China (GTC) singed a Memorandum of understanding on 6th Sept 2008 with the participation of Mr Hasitha Tillekeratne, Chairman NGJA. It is expected to boost trade opportunities between Sri Lanka and China .

Mr Hasitha Tillekeratne ,Chairman ,’NGJA’ said “We strongly beleive that the coloured stone industry needs a focussed and unified marketing strategy that will propel the demands across the emerging consumer markets. SLGJA ‘s affiliation with the GTC will offer the Sri Lanka’s coloured stone community a dedicated platform to further boost their trade in China.”

Deshabandu Macky Hashim, the chairman ‘SLGJA’ said , “we are pleased to work with a reputable association such as GTC with a 1500 strong membership and our association with GTC will pave the way for a decicated market for over 350 of our members”.

‘NGJA’ sponsored two special pavillions at Facets 2008 for the fourth time to encourage the small and medium scale entreprenours to participate at the show. fourteen members of the trade representing the gem sector and fifteen members representing the jewellery sector were provided with an opportunity to showcase their products.
