More than 5000 visitors flocked to the BMICH exhibition and convention center over the weekend of September 6-9 to pick up their favourite gemstones and well designed jewellery direct from the source at the annual FACETS Sri Lanka 2008 International Gem and Jewellery Exhibition.

Speaking at the ceremony hon. Dr Sarath Amunugama , Minister of enterprise development and investment promotion said that the facets show was an important event event for Sri Lanka to showcase our products and encourage business as it explores better trade ties with emerging Asian countries such as China and Myanmar.

Ministers A.H.M Fowzie and Mano Wijeratne and diplomats were among the other distinguished guests at the event .

At this show more than 150 booths displayed products from local and international as well as new entrants to the industry . Leading industry representatives from Hong Kong, Thailand, Myanmar, Singapore and an important business delegation from China were also present.

A walk along the aisles of the two exhibition halls proved to be a truly unforgettable experience . In Hall A, buyers discovering a glittering array of the most beautiful and coloured gemstones , and Hall B exhibited jewellery where visitors were dazzled by exquisite craftsmanship and stunning designs . The exhibition was open to the public and discerning buyers found this an ideal opportunity to source their bridal jewellery , rare pieces of fine designs and to add to their collections of fine gems , conveniently under one roof.

At this year’s exhibition visitors found more than 75 gem varieties that are found in Sri Lanka’s gem rich soil . These included sapphires , Rubies, Alexandrites ,Cat’s Eyes, Padparadscha, Amethyst, Topaz, Zircons, Tourmalines ,Garnets and Moonstones.The exhibition also showcased some of her best gem cutting and designer talent.

“Facets Sri Lanka ” is Sri Lanka’s only international trade exhibition, which is featured in the International Callender of Events in the Gem and Jewellery Industry worldwide.The show which is organized and sponsored by the National Gem and Jewellery Authority( NGJA) , has been held for 18 years since its inception in 1991 and has attracted more than a million buyers, sellers and visitors.
