Suttipong Damrongsakul, President of the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association, commenting on the holding of the inaugural fair, said, “We are certain to see a bigger and better fair than our previous editions this coming June. The feedback from Thai and international exhibitors, as well as support from visitors has been extraordinary. The fair will also enable a more vibrant and dynamic environment in gems and jewelry trading.”
The Gem & Jewelry industry and trade in Thailand is the third export revenue generating sector of the country, generating US$12.3 billion worth of exports from January to October of this year. To further enhance revenue generation from this sector, TGJTA is planning to initiate the promotion of gem and jewlery sales, side by side with the promotion of tourism, by encouraging tourists to buy gem and jewelry as souvenirs.

The TGJTA established over 40 years ago, with the objective of supporting and promoting Thailand’s gem and jewelry industry, has during this period looked after the needs of all its members in the gem and jewelry industry and trade, from small and medium enterprises to large businesses, involved in all aspects of the industry, including sourcing and processing of raw materials, designing and manufacture of jewelry as well as manufacturing equipment and innovations in the industry.
TGJTA supports the development of the Thai gem and jewelry industry from training of craftsmen to removing barriers in the import of rough stones and other raw materials such as gold and silver. On a recommendation made by TGJTA, the Government of Thailand has exempted the imports of silver and gold coils under 18K, from the payment of customs duty, which is expected to boost the jewelry manufacturing industry. TGJTA had always lobbied for new measures to increase the competitive advantage for the Thai gems and jewelry industry on global markets. In this regard the organization has also established alliances with various gems and jewelry associations worldwide. The organization of the Inaugural Thailand Gems & Jewelry Fair 2017 by TGJTA will no doubt help in achieving its laudable objectives as it had previously done when organizing the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair.
