Lucara Diamond Corporatiion, a Canadian diamond mining company, the sole owner and operator of the Karowe Diamond Mine in Botswana, in a press release dated July 13, 2021, announced the sensational recovery of a 62.7-carat fancy pink rough diamond from the EM/PK(S) unit of the South Lobe, the source of top white gem-quality 341-carat and 378-carat rough diamonds recovered in January 2021. The rough diamond was christened “BOITUMELO” which means “JOY” in the Setswana Language.

The impressive, high-quality, fancy pink, Type IIa rough diamond having dimensions of 26 x 17 x 16 mm was recovered from direct milling of ore sourced from the EM/PK(S) Unit of the Soiuth Lobe. Apart from the 62.7-carat fancy pink diamond, three other fancy-pink gem-quality diamonds of similar quality, color and purity was also recovered during the same production period, weighing respectively 22.21 carats, 11.17 carats and 5.05 carats. The 62.7-carat Boitumelo diamond while going on record as the largest fancy-pink gem to be recovered in Botswana is also considered as one of the largest pink diamonds ever recovered in the World, falling among the largest pink diamonds in the world, such as the Darya-i-Nur, Nur-ul-Ain, Steinmetz Pink, and Shah Jahan diamonds whose cut and polished weights are respectively 186 carats, 60 carats, 59.60 carats and 56.71 carats.
