Registration for Rio Tinto’s rough diamond tender in Israel close three weeks ahead of the event

Due to an overwhelming response from buyers for Rio Tinto’s first ever tender of rough diamonds originating from its Canadian Diavik Mine, to be held in Israel at the Israeli Diamond Exchange Trading Hall, coinciding with the summer edition of the US & International Diamond Week, coming up from August 26-29, 2013, organizers of the event, The Israeli Diamond Exchange has announced that registration for the tender has already been closed. It is expected that the second US & International Diamond Week organized by the IDE, would feature rough diamonds in a range of sizes, but mainly large-size stones, worth tens of millions of dollars.
It was reported earlier that organizers of the event were gearing up to welcome and accomodate more than 350 buyers arriving for the event, and also to facilitate the arrival of significant quantities of diamonds that will be traded during this unique, four-day-long diamond trading festival. In this connection, Yair Sahar, president of the Israeli Diamond Exchange said, “We are taking all the necessary steps and measures, not only to arrange for the smooth arrival of the participants, but also to assure that necessary import and export procedures of the goods that will be traded at this unique diamond trading festival will be seamless!” Accordingly, Mr Sahar assured participants at the event that the IDE has liased with all relevant authorities such as the Diamond Controller, shipping, forwarding and other logistic providers, requesting them to gear themselves up for the arrival of unusually large shipments of diamonds, that will be offered for sale at the event. Elaborating further, Mr. Sahar said, “I asked the Diamond Controller, Schmuel Mordechai, to intervene personally and coordinate with his colleagues at customs, not only at Israel’s borders, but also abroad, to ascertain that the diamonds arriving at our borders will be processed effectively,”
Responding to Mr. Sahar’s request, Mr. Mordechai said that his office is fully prepared to render all assistance necessary to make this event a great success. “This is an important marketing effort for the Israel diamond industry and we will do all we can to help make this a resounding success,” the Diamond Controller stated.
In the meantime all efforts are being made to accommodate comfortably all buyer’s delegations. While a large delegation of American diamond buyers headed by Reuven Kaufman, president of the Diamond Dealers Club of New York, is expected to attend the event, efforts are also being made to receive additional accredited diamond buyers from the USA. The strategy of a focused global marketing campaign conducted by the Israeli Diamond Exchange in association with the Israeli Diamond Institute has already resulted in a substantial increase of applications from participants worldwide.
According to IDE presidet Sahar, “The summer edition of the US & International Diamond Week in Israel is the continuation of the long-term marketing efforts undertaken by the Israel Diamond Exchange. By creating additional marketing tools for the members, the IDE board and management fulfill a crucial commitment to IDE members and to the Israeli diamond industry and trade at large: the strengthening of Israel as a world diamond manufacturing and trading center, and the creation of value-adding marketing tools for its members.”
