A pioneering gem and jewelry show, christened “Sparkle & Glitter – 2012”, organized by the Sri Lanka-Malaysia Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, in association with the National Gem & Jewelry Authority of Sri Lanka, will be held from February 9-11, 2012, at the Cedar Room of the Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo. The highly prestigious and pioneering three-day event will not only feature some of Sri Lanka’s rare and unique gemstones, but also exquisitely crafted, high-end, fine jewelry, incorporating the highest quality Sri Lanka gemstones, including the renowned Sri Lanka blue sapphire, whose international popularity received a major boost recently, after the royal engagement and wedding of Prince William, the second-in-line of succession to the British throne, to Kate Middleton. The engagement ring given by Prince William to Kate Middleton, was a white gold cluster ring with an 18-carat Sri Lankan cornflower blue sapphire, as its centerpiece and surrounded by 16 brilliant-cut diamonds. The topmost gem and jewelry trading organizations in the country have been invited to the prestigious event to showcase their products to discerning visitors who are looking for value for their money.
A novel feature of this pioneering show will be a limited ticket sale raffle draw that will be held parallel to the exhibition, with a grand prize of a high-quality, 8-carat blue sapphire worth US$ 15,000. Five hundred tickets, each valued as US$ 100, will be offered for sale during the period of the exhibition on a first-come-first-serve basis, and the draw will be held on February 12, 2012. Restricting the ticket sales to just 500 tickets would enhance the probability of winning the grand prize for all ticket holders, which would be just 1 in 500, compared to a normal raffle draw with unlimited sales, with thousands of tickets sold.
The Sri Lanka-Malaysia Business Council is one of 21 bilateral Business Councils operating under the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, whose prime objectives are promotion of trade, investment, joint ventures and services including tourism between Sri Lanka and the respective countries, and thereby expanding business activities between Sri Lanka and the partner country.
