Sri Lankan Entrepreneur Strikes Gold

A Sri Lankan entrepreneur has successfully recovered gold from the black  sand that is washed away from the gem gravel.

The entrepreneur met the Chairman of the National Gem and Jewellery Authority(NGJA), Mr Anil Koswatte on the 15th June 2010. He brought along  with him samples of the black sand, gold dust and two gold ingots weighing 85.00 grams fabricated from the gold dust.

The purity of the gold ingots were checked at the ‘Sri Lanka assay office’ , which is also located at the headquarters of the NGJA. It turned out to have a purity of 99.9%.

The entrepreneur is also a leading gem miner and a manufacturer and exporter of gem gravel washing machines. He claimed to have developed an extracting machine that could be used for commercially successful extraction of gold.

The NGJA hopes to provide whatever assistance needed by the entrepreneur to help him regularize his operations through the Lands & Mining Technology Division of ‘NGJA’ with the help of other related Institutions and under the able guidance and advice of Hon. Anura Priyadarsana Yapa Minister of Environment.
